This article examines the aspects, which are related with using of problem-based learning (PBL) in the educational process in preschool educational institutions, in particular, the elements of problem-based learning in the mathematical development of senior preschoolers; the authors of the article analyze the scientists’ views on the role of problem-based learning in the educational process, in particular for the formation of mathematical competence in senior preschoolers; focus on the fact that this will contribute to the formation of life competence in children of preschool age, prepare them to solve real problems in everyday life and future professional activities.
According to the authors’ opinion, the introduction of elements of problem-based learning in the process of teaching senior preschool children mathematics will contribute to the formation of positive motivation for children to study in math classes, will turn children from passive listeners to active problem-solvers together with the preschool teacher; will help children to develop skills of logical thinking, problem solving and independent learning.
The authors of the article consider that preschoolers’ interest in mathematics plays a significant role in the formation of children's mathematical competence.
The article prуіутеі an example of elements of problem-based learning using, focuses on the role of the preschool teachers’ pedagogical skills as a manager in the process of elements of problem-based learning using in the work with preschool children.
Preparing educators for their role as managers of problem-based learning with preschool children in the process of forming their elementary mathematical concepts will be a prospect for further scientific research of the authors.
