The article analyses the little-known pages of the activities of Vasyl Porayko and the brothers Yulian and Yevhen Goyiv in the branch of the Ukrainian Student Union in Sniatyn in 1912–1921. The content and directions of the Ukrainian Student Union in Lviv are traced. The forms of practical activity of the branch of the Ukrainian Students’ Union in Sniatyn of the period under study are revealed.
The contribution of V. Porayko and the brothers Y. and E. Goyiv to the development of this branch of the student youth society is shown. The activity of these figures in protecting the interests of students and the development of cultural and educational life of Ukrainians in the region is noted.
We found out that the Sniatyn section of the USS was formed on 1 November 1911 as one of the consequences of the practical activities of the USS after the completion of the 101 trial in Lviv. The USF as a youth organisation was a leading consolidating force for Ukrainian students in Galicia. Among the founders and active members of the society in Sniatyn during the Austrian period were Vasyl Porayko and the brother of his fiancée Olha Goyiv, Julian, and during the Polish occupation, in 1920–1921, the activities of the USS in Sniatyn were resumed by Julian and Olha Goyiv’s younger brother, Yevhen. The Sniatyn section of the USS played a leading role in the Ukrainian social, cultural, and political life of the district and the town during both the Austrian and Polish periods.
The Sniatyn section of the USS was a kind of preparatory platform for further self-realisation in the public and command and control spaces for both V. Porayko and his closest friends, the Goyiv brothers. This activity became a significant stage in the formation of their personalities, friendship and interaction. In further studying this topic, it is necessary to pay attention to the characterisation of the relations between these figures in 1912–1937.
