THE GALITION’s DIMENSION OF THE VOLYN’s EXPERIENCE: UKRAINIAN PEOPLE’S SELF-DEFENSE AS A MANIFESTATION OF THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE MILITARY COMPONENT OF THE NATIONAL LIBERATION MOVEMENT IN THE REGION (the second half of 1943)

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the evolution of the concept of building up the national armed forces among the leadership of the radical nationalist wing of the domestic national liberation movement on the eve and during the Nazi-Soviet military conflict of 1941‒1945. Emphasis is placed on the interconnection of the idea of forming a national army with the implementation of key aspects of the doctrine of national development in interpretation of the representatives of the nationalist segment of the then domestic political system.

The totality of the phenomena of the occupation reality, which played the role of reasons for correcting ideas about the deployment of the armed struggle for state sovereignty, is analyzed. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the features of a socio-political and socio-economic nature, which characterized not only the regional, but also the All-Ukrainian and world levels.

The forms of implementation of the modernized military doctrine of the radical nationalist wing of the national Resistance movement are defined. At the same time, the regional features of the appearance and functioning of the armed forces are outlined. Emphasis is placed on the reasons that led to the lack of a uniform approach to the formation of military formations in Galicia and Volyn. In general, the course and chronology of the process of structural reform of the armed forces of the nationalist wing of the national Resistance movement with the aim of their unification in the process of struggle for the realization of the defining component of the national idea in the form of a sovereign and cathedral national state is analyzed.
