Abstract

The current essay is devoted to the most famous pages of the history of Halych and the region. In the popular science style, the author acquaints the reader with the princely era of the city formation and its transformation into the capital. A special attention is paid to the characteristics of the activities of the most famous Halych princes Volodymyrko and his son Yaroslav. The most dramatic part of the author’s story is undoubtedly the era of the struggle for Halych among Romanovyches, the Hungarian kings, and Polish princes in the first half of the thirteenth century. The researcher summarizes the most glorious events that happened in Halych in 1340 and acquaints the readers with the first archeological and historical explorations of the region in the XIX century which resulted in numerous sensational discoveries.
