SIEGE OF HALYCH IN 1387: AN OUTLINE OF FOREIGN HISTORIOGRAPHY

Abstract

The article is devoted to the review of foreign historians of the XVIII – early XXI centuries from Russia, Poland, and Hungary on the siege of the city and the fortress of Halych in 1387 by the Polish King Volodyslav II and his brother, the Prince of Lithuania Vitovt. While Russian and Hungarian historians had only a mediocre interest, Polish colleagues showed much greater engagement in the topic for objective reasons. The latter is conditioned by the circumstances of the expansion of the possessions of the Jagiellonian dynasty and the rise of the Polish Kingdom at the turn of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
