Abstract

Aim. The film «Unconquered» through the biofiction of Roman Shukhevych reveals the concept of “freedom”, which is leading in the collective subconscious of Ukrainians. The life of Roman Shukhevych and his like-minded people, the founding of the OUN and UPA, the activities of Stepan Bandera are facts of organized resistance of ethnic Ukrainians and representatives of other peoples, who shared views on the possibility of creating an Independent Ukraine within the official totalitarian system of the USSR in the twentieth century. The historical actions of Roman Shukhevych and his like-minded people highlight the features of patriotism, emphasize the aura of ethics of care for «own», social ecology within the UPA collective, whose actions were based on the feeling of «their own». Roman Shukhevych and his like-minded people in the film «Unconquered» are revealed as characters who love «own» and respect «someone else’s».
