Abstract

Gates and short not-flanked stack(stands were considered to be the weakest links of the defensive perimeter of the castles of all defense systems in the 13 17th centuries. During modernization of defensive objects, wall fractures were made intended to increase its strength and ricochet cannonballs during the firing. In the national scientific literature, they are called angles, or corners. In the process of evolution, the corners were reinforced by towers, turrets, bases, and redans filled with soil. A unique of its type in Western Ukrainian fortification defensive structure was included in the outer defense perimeter of the Halych Starostynskyi Castle of the last (seventh) construction period. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it occupies the upper step in the hierarchy of the corner defensive fortifications of castles.
